The quicker the reaction time, the better the chance of reducing the threat,” he added. The upcoming mobilization will be 2nd Battalion, 25th Marines’ third since 2002 and their second tour in Iraq. Upon arrival, they will be assigned to the First Marine Expeditionary Force. “Their heart, soul and desire is going into this training,” said Sgt. Maj. Anthony Allen, the Battalion Sergeant Major. This annual training, which will also include live-fire, first aid and fixed site security exercises, will conclude on March 15. The battalion’s Marines will then return to their civilian lives, and are scheduled to mobilize for about a year this spring.
MARINE CORPS BASE QUANTICO, Va. (Mar. 7, 2008) -- Company F and Headquarters and Service Company, 2nd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, spent the afternoon conducting motorized operations immediate action drills at the battalion’s Annual Training aboard Camp Upshur at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Va., March 6. “You’ve got a whole lot of gear and not a whole lot of speed! You need to learn to react quickly!” Sgt. Daniel Hodd shouted through a bullhorn. Dottin, the unit’s communications platoon sergeant, served as the non-commissioned officer in charge of the day’s motorized operations training. This two-week annual training is part of a pre-deployment package which will continue at the Marine Corps Air-Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, Calif. this summer. “A lot of them (Marines) are seeing this for the first time,” said Capt. David J. Martino, Company F Executive Officer. “With training, we take a crawl, walk, run approach. For these young Marines, we are in the crawl phase of training. When we get out to Twentynine Palms in June, we will be walking and running.” For about 75% of the Marines from Company F, this will be their first deployment to Iraq. “This is a big part of our mission in Iraq,” said Martino, whose son, Lance Cpl. Jason Martino, is in the battalion’s Company G, and is also bound for Iraq. “Our Marines have to be prepared to react to any threat
