HMLA - 773 COMMANDING OFFICER

LtCol P. Ozmer

Red Dogs:

It’s been a busy summer since we returned from Iraq and the pace will continue as we move into a new  fiscal year.

Congratulations on another great deployment during Annual Training                                                           at Hurlburt Field in August.  As with all Red Dog deployments, the                                                       Squadron performed superbly, deploying 165 Marines while flying nearly                                                 100 hours while conducting a variety of training, support and tactical                                                 missions.  Red Dog aircraft expended over 43,000 rounds and fired over                                                 500 rockets while supporting HMX-1 and the Air Force Combat                                                        Controllers and adding to the Squadron’s reputation for excellence.

The Squadron was also recognized with two more accolades; Secretary of the Navy, Donald C. Winter announced Aug. 19 the 2008 Department of the Navy's (DoN) Safety Excellence Award winner for Marine Forces Reserve was the Red Dogs and the Marine Corps Aviation Association announced that the Squadron had been recognized with the John P. Giguere Award as the Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron of the Year for 2008, the Squadron’s second award for ‘HMLA of the Year’.

Honors and accolades like these don’t come easy; they are earned by the men and women that wear our patch and the families that support them.  To each of you I offer my congratulations and a hearty ‘well done’ with a sincere thank you to your families that support you as we support our Corps and Nation during the ‘Long War’.

 Semper Fidelis
