Sergeant Major, 4th Marine Division
Sergeant Major George L. Shine

Sergeant Major Shine, originally from Charleston,
South Carolina, joined the Marine Corps in July 1983
and attended boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit
Depot Parris Island, South Carolina.
Upon completion
of recruit training, Sergeant Major Shine reported to
Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, where he attended
Infantry Training School.
He then reported to Security
Forces Roosevelt Roads Puerto Rico.
In May 1985, Sergeant Major Shine was transferred to 2nd Battalion, 3rdMarines, 1st Marine Brigade, MCAS Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii where he served as an Infantry Fire Team Leader and Squad Leader.
In March 1987, Sergeant Major Shine volunteered for Drill Instructor duty.
Upon completion of Drill Instructor School, he was assigned to H Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, MCRD, Parris Island, South Carolina, where he served as a Drill Instructor and Battalion Drill Master.
In November 1989, Sergeant Major Shine reported to 3rd BN, 7th Marine Brigade to serve as an Infantry Platoon Sergeant.
While serving with the 3rd BN, 7th Marine Brigade, he was deployed to the Persian Gulf in support of Desert Storm and Desert Shield.
In May 1992, Sergeant Major Shine then reported to Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida for duty as a Drill Instructor.
In June 1995, he reported to the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit to serve as the Operations Chief.
While serving with the 22nd MEU, Sergeant Major Shine was deployed to Landing Forces Sixth Fleet 1-96, where he served as the Joint Operations Center Operation Chief in support of Operations Assured Response and Quick Response.
In September 1996, he reported to Echo Company, 2nd BN, 2nd Marine Regiment where he served as the Company Gunnery Sergeant.
In February 1998, Sergeant Major Shine reported to Golf Company, 2nd BN, 8th Marines where he served as the Company 1stSgt.
In May 1999, he reported to Instructor Inspector Staff, Charleston, South Carolina where he served as the I-I First Sergeant.
In February of 2003, he was transferred to 1st Recruit Training Battalion, Parris Island, South Carolina where he served as the Battalion Sergeant Major.
In February of 2005, Sergeant Major Shine was transferred to Support Battalion, Parris Island, South Carolina where he served until being transferred to MALS 29 in April 2006.
In November of 2006, Sergeant Major Shine was transferred from MALS 29 to MAG 29, as the Group Sergeant Major.
While serving with MAG 29, Sergeant Major Shine deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Sergeant Major Shine assumed his current post as Sergeant Major Shine 4th Marine Division on July 25th 2008.
