Commanding Officer
14th Marine Regiment
Colonel Alan L. Orr

Commissioned 20 December, 1986. Upon completion of the
Basic School and the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course in
Ft Sill, Oklahoma, Lt Orr reported to the First Marine
Division where he served as a Fire Direction Officer,
Platoon commander, Forward Observer and Executive
Officer with Battery H, 3rd Battalion, 11th
Marines from September 1987 to July 1991. During this
period he participated in two unit deployments to Okinawa
and was the Battery Executive Officer during Operations
Desert Shield and Desert Storm as a member of Task Force
Ripper. From July
1991 to May 1993, he served as a Gunnery Instructor for the
Field Artillery Officer Basic Course in Ft Sill, OK. In
June 1993, he assumed command of the Marine Battery, 2nd
Bn, 80th Field Artillery. During this time, he
also attended and graduated from the Field Artillery Officer
Advanced Course. He left Ft Sill in 1994 to attend
Amphibious Warfare School at Quantico, Virginia where he
graduated in June of 1995. After
graduating from AWS, he reported to the 1st
Marine Division where he served with 3rd
Battalion, 11th Marines as the Commanding
Officer, L 3/11 and Battalion Operations Officer, and as the
Fire Support Coordinator for 7th Marine Regiment
in 29 Palms, California, from July 1995 to June 1998. During June
1998, he was transferred to Marine Corps Recruiting Station
San Antonio, Texas where he served as the Commanding Officer
until July 2001. In August 2001, he reported to the Marine
Corps Command and Staff College (CSC) where he graduated
with Honors and earned a Masters of Military Science degree
in June 2002. While attending CSC, he was selected to
attend the School of Advanced Warfighting (SAW). While a
student at SAW, he was assigned as an Operational Planner
for the 1st Marine Division in support of
Operation Iraqi Freedom. Upon graduation from SAW in June
2003 he was assigned as the 11th Marines
Logistics Officer. He assumed command of 1st
Battalion, 11th Marines in May of 2004. In June
of 2006 he attended the Army War College in Carlisle, PA and
graduated in June of 2007. His previous assignment was as
the Future Operations Officer for III Marine Expeditionary
Force, Okinawa, Japan, he is currently the Commanding
Officer 14th Marine Regiment.
